Veterinary Disclaimer

Please read this disclaimer carefully before using TreatCheck. By using the TreatCheck platform, you acknowledge and accept the terms set out below.

General Information Only

TreatCheck provides general food safety information and guidance for pet owners. All content on the TreatCheck platform — including food safety ratings, Paw Scores, nutritional information, hazard guidance, health insights, breed intelligence, health predictions, and any other content — is provided for educational and informational purposes only. It does not constitute veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and should not be used as the sole basis for any decision about your pet's health or diet.

TreatCheck is not a regulated medical device. It is a digital tool that draws on veterinary and nutritional reference information to provide general guidance. The output of TreatCheck — whether a 'Safe', 'Caution', or 'Unsafe' rating — represents a general assessment based on known species-level data and your pet's profile. It is not a clinical judgement made by a veterinarian who has examined your pet.

Not a Substitute for Professional Veterinary Advice

The information provided by TreatCheck is not a substitute for the advice, diagnosis, or treatment of a qualified veterinary professional. TreatCheck does not have a veterinarian-patient relationship with you or your pet. Always consult a registered veterinarian before making significant changes to your pet's diet, before giving your pet any supplement, and whenever you have concerns about your pet's health.

The fact that TreatCheck rates a food as 'Safe' does not mean it is appropriate for your individual pet in all circumstances, or that it will not cause an adverse reaction in a specific individual animal. Individual animals vary significantly, and no automated system can account for every possible individual variation.

Emergency Situations

If your pet has eaten something you believe may be toxic, is showing signs of illness, has been injured, or is in any distress, do not rely on TreatCheck — contact a veterinarian immediately. In the UK:

Contact your own veterinary practice (all practices are required by law to provide emergency first aid services or refer you to one that does). For out-of-hours emergencies, contact your vet's emergency number — this is usually provided on their answerphone. For specialist poisoning advice, contact the Animal Poison Line on 01202 509 000 (charges apply).

Do not delay seeking emergency veterinary care in order to use TreatCheck or any other online resource.

Accuracy and Currency of Information

TreatCheck makes reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of the information provided, but we cannot guarantee that all information is complete, current, or applicable to every individual animal. Veterinary knowledge is continually evolving, and information that was accurate at the time of writing may be superseded by new research.

TreatCheck does not accept liability for any harm to any animal or person arising from reliance on information provided by the platform. The platform is provided 'as is' without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

Third-Party Data and Barcode Scanning

TreatCheck's barcode scanning feature uses third-party product databases — including Open Food Facts and similar services — to retrieve ingredient information for packaged products. These databases are crowdsourced and maintained by volunteers. TreatCheck cannot guarantee that product information retrieved via barcode scanning is complete, current, or accurately reflects the actual product formulation.

Manufacturers sometimes change product formulations without updating third-party databases. Always read the full physical product label before offering any packaged food to your pet, and do not rely solely on TreatCheck's barcode result for final confirmation of ingredients.

Professional Advice Always Recommended

We strongly encourage all pet owners to establish a relationship with a local registered veterinary practice, to attend regular health checks for their pets, and to discuss any dietary concerns or changes with a qualified veterinarian who knows their individual animal.

TreatCheck is a tool to help you make more informed decisions — not to replace professional judgement. If you have any doubt about whether a food, supplement, or dietary change is appropriate for your pet, always consult your vet before proceeding. When in doubt, ask your vet.
